Re: [TASS] too many threads

Speaking for myself...

There are currently too many threads of discussion in the TASS maillist, for
any one person to follow very well. THis happens from time to time,
and the usual symptom is when people start posting "please remove me
from the list" messages. I think it is very helpful when participants in
a discussion thread work to keep the "subject:" header consistent
with the primary subject of the thread. When the discussion shifts,
the subject header should change as well. And it helps to keep
messages down to one subject per message.

I think most of us follow this protocol or try to, which is why I
choose to call it out as a good idea, although I'm not the TASS maillist
moderator (no one is). However, schemes to create "recommended" subject
tags simply have not worked, so I won't encourage that.

TASS is unique for its open development process. I don't want
to change that, I just want to make it easier for our colleagues and
associates to follow those developments that most interest them.
They can delete the other messages, if we are "good" about taging
them by their current contents. Also, this enhances any review of the email
archives, which are well-worth mining for background and previous decisions.
Michael Richmond is to be commended for maintaining that archive.
