[TASS] Quick-Look At Tom's Latest Batch Of Data
Hello Mark IV Data Fans;
I took a "quick look" at the batch of data that Tom sent and arrived here
yesterday with the processing code in its current condition. The data from
11/27 & 11/28 had high background levels (in excess of 225 or so) which is
probably a good indication of some high cloud cover and made matching with
catalog stars quite difficult….
The data from the analysis log file shown below is representative of the
data on Tom's Disk #5 which a number of people have been looking at. It
looks like 3 x 3 PFS's due to "hot pixel's" are still an artifact on Tom's
V-band camera. These are pretty much absent on the "I" band data. This is
probably the most pressing issue to look at (from a data perspective) as
Andrew pointed out in one of his e-mail's from a few days ago.
"In an earlier post, I complained that the MKIII
Windows version of Star was giving a one-point PSF
when I ran it on CD5 MKIV V-data (gimmicked to look
like MKIII). I-data was OK.
I now have rudimentary Dark and Flat running on the
MKIV data and the problem has gone away; PSF for the
V-images is now 5x9 (5x9 to 9x11 for the I-images)
as one would expect from looking at the raw data.
It seems that Star was seeing all those hot pixels
in preference to the harder work of looking at stars!
I therefore withdraw the suggestion that Tom should
defocus the telescopes. If my diagnosis that the problem
was the hot pixels is correct, it would not have helped
anyway!
Andrew Bennett, Avondale Vineyard, Nova Scotia, Canada."
I am most curious what Andrew did to solve this problem (using custom made
dark/flat frames) it looks like. Also it makes me wonder if this is a
artifact of all the V-band cameras or just the one that Tom happens to have
on his current Mark IV or if all of the Mark IV cameras (V-band) will have
similar artifacts????
Any ideas would be appreciated before I process a lot more data!!
Glenn G.
