For deciding whether a proposed variable is double
or contaminated by some bright neighbor, other surveys
are already available. Just use DSS; it goes much fainter
and with 2arcsec resolution. Even using USNO-A2.0 so
that you have real coordinates is a good solution since
that check can be computerized.
We found with the FASTT survey that variable star searches
are great for finding pairs of stars with spacing equal to
the aperture size. Anyone want a list of 5arcsec doubles?
That is why I keep harping on storing shape parameters with
each detected object.
