RE: Time for Software
I will volunteer to lead the Windows pipeline effort. Star, the ip library,
etc. will be my starting point since it seemed to work well for the Mark III
and has produced good first step results with the Mark IV images provided to
date. There will, of course, be enhancements and modifications to process
the Mark IV images properly.
It will be interesting to compare the results of IRAF and Star on the same
images.

Subject: Time for Software
It is time to start thinking seriously about software. ARNE will be
delivered this month. MICHAEL probably next month. Both GLENN and MIKE
should make it this fall. CHRIS and NICK should follow in a month or
two. I plan to order parts for SAREL, TOMII and TOMIII shortly. Every
time I work in the basement I end up with more working cameras. It will
not be long until we have piles of data.
I would like to see a couple of software teams form. Disk 15 can serve a
sample data for testing. I would hope to see a Windows pipeline group, and
a Linux pipeline group.
The list has been very quiet lately. I hope you are all just resting up
for the big push.
I plan to run a six camera installation. This should allow me to take
almost as much data as a good site. The quantity will be similar, but the
quality will not be as good. Still, experience with the Mark IIIs
indicates that the data will be useful.
It does not appear that the motivation for doing this work has changed very
much. It will be a very useful project. We can do the northern hemisphere
very well from the planned sites. The south is a problem, but I can build
more cameras if interested parties show up after we start producing good
data.
OK, I am waving the flag and yelling "charge". Andrew and Jure have both
made pipelines work for the Disk 15 data. We need to form up in groups and
divide up the work. Chris is working on the front end data taker.
I am not the one to lead this effort. Can I get someone to step forward
and say "I will lead the M group", I will lead the L group". OK, I know we
are all leaders here. I am not asking anyone to direct others. Rather I
am looking for rallying points to get organized so that you can get
together and divide up the work.
