Getting Ready to Go

Bill came over yesterday and we took ARNE apart. Bill was getting a little
nervous toward the end as I was just stripping off cables and stuffing them
in plastic bags. I kept saying "you will remember where this goes, won't
you." My only fear is that I will forget something critical. Everything
that comes off ARNE is being put onto one workbench. That way I hope to
not lose anything. Also every tool used to take ARNE apart is going on the
workbench. We shall see if I get there with everything. I have all the
mechanics labeled with letter pairs on the matching parts. It is really
very symmetrical so there should be no problems unless I forget a part.

There is one part of the Mark IV that goes together like a Chinese
puzzle. Bill seems to have found a nice way to take it apart. (And put it
together, I hope.)

I have turned TOM back on and have two of the new cameras in it for
testing. I will take four cameras to AZ and these will be two of them. So
far they look OK. Sigh! I seem to have a brown thumb these days. The
de-humidifier chiller seems to have died. At least the compressor is very
warm and it is not cooling the water. I guess it did not like spending the
summer in the tower where it gets pretty hot. The Mark IV, I note, is
working fine.

Thanks to those who told me there still is a battery in a PC. Why? I
would thing a little EERAM would save needing a battery. OK, you may need
it for the clock but not for the CMOS setup. In any case, Dan removed it
from the sick PC and we tested it. It read 3.2 volts open circuit, and
about 2.7 volts with a load. Sounds like a good battery to me.
