Re: Data Sets for Data Reduction
Woops! I misread. Two images a day is too slow. I read it as two disks a
day. ;^) I too am curious why you have not upgraded your 8086 to something
faster. ;^)
If this increased computation produces better results, one could set up a
SETI like operation to get the data reduced. SETI seems to have proven
that there are a lot of computer owners out there willing to put their idle
computer time to work. This would be a constructive way to get a lot of
people interested in astronomy.
There are 180 people on the tass mail list that I know of. The fact that
they hang around means that they are interested. I bet many would process
disks if we sent out a call. OK, I know it is too soon. Andrew will find
the loop that eats up 99 percent of the time and make it better. We sholud
not let computation time daunt us. I think it can be found.
Just for fun, how many of you lurkers would be willing to run a processing
program? Send private mail to me at tdroege@veriomail.com and I will
report the number. You might also report the available processing
speed/number of computers that you could put to the task. Remember, just
for fun, so don't put in any work.
