An other way to think about this:

While you are designing your Mk IV pipeline, please try
and make it general enough to also accept non-Mk IV data.
For example don't hard code the CCD image size, or the image
scale.  Read the FITS header.

I think this is all that we need to do to get what Tom asks for.
