RE: Mark IV reduction pipeline -- first complete release

I just started to look.
So far xvista builds with gcc on our 64 bit Ultra SPARC server
running Solars 8.   Made very small changes to the Makefile:
1) On solaris -static does not work 
2) With newer gcc versions you can use _both_ -g and -O2 at once.
