One of the reasons for this project is that SIMMs that the memory board was
designed for are getting scarce. Of course we could find them, but I like
having everything in a system from a similar run. It makes troubleshooting
easier. Along with the scarcity of the SIMMs, there is also the scarcity
of PCs with ISA slots. Then there is the problem that I don't understand
why the Memory boards work at all. Those of you that have Memory boards
will notice tags on them that say something like "off by 1, works in
system". This means that when I read back what I wrote in the test mode,
it comes back offset by one byte.
At the price of systems these days, it is just not worth rescuing an old
486. So I want to get away from the ISA slot.
