Scripts used for DS-19

I am trying to learn to analyze data.  Some of you will be using IRAF to 
work on DS-19.  I would be interested in simple script examples that I can 
try to use to look at DS-19.  I am not stuck on IRAF.  I would be happy to 
work on DS-19 with any system.

At the moment, I am overwhelmed by the magnitude of learning to use 
IRAF.  I have just printed out 2" or so of IRAF manuals.  Even the 
beginner's section assumes a lot that I don't know.

Perhaps one of you teachers out there will prepare me an example problem to 
get me started.  A few simple commands to execute to do something with 
DS-19.  I have to take a first step.  I would not object to several 
lessons, and promise to do each one submitted if it is humanly possible for me.

I have Linux installed on a nice machine.  I know almost nothing about 
Linux, so even simple file manipulations need to be spelled out.  Lets say 
we start with DS191 on the CD drive, and go from there.
