Re: Cygwin and others...
Peter,
My server is a SPARC running Solaris 8. Some of
the programs are character based some use X11.
I connect using "ssh -X myusername@hostname"
and I have access to the GIU programs running
in the SPARC server. I also have a VNC server
running on the SPARC so PC users with no local
x-servers can use VNCviewer on their PCs along with
ssh's port forwarding. I know this can be done
with a Windows client but I've not tried.
If I had Windows I'd simply get cygwin, xfree86
and openssh but there may be a way that is less
scarry for a Windows user. ??? I assume there must
be native ports of ssh that don't use cygwin?
I do not want to open up the VNC ports on my
firewall. They will have to go in via ssh.
Perhaps they could use VNC's browser interface on
port 58xx?
Anyone who wants to play with this let me know and I'll
set up an account. I think the first person should
be someone who knows something about the above.
