Re: GPS
Dear Tom,
The GPS are well running. Last sunday I was in the mountains and received
in less than1 minute 10 satelites, using a garmin Etrex Summit. Just as a
personnal impression, I have the feeling that I detect now more satellites
than ever before (not only last sunday, but may be since a year or so).
Could you have a problem with the batteries? I experienced more than once
that the number of satellites detected depends strongly on the voltage,
probably due to the first antenna preamp I guess. Last sunday, the receiver
was equipped with NiMH batteries, providing an insufficient voltage according
to garmin..., that had been freshly reloaded.
If you are interested in using gps for timing, have a look at
http://www.tapr.org/gps/ . TAPR is an organisation not very far from TASS!
Best regards, Paul
