Patrick, if you know the field centre and exposure time,
then MPCHECKER facility at MPC will give you all
asteroids in a given radius brighter than a given magnitude
that are known. There are not supposed to be any mag 14
unknown asteroids. In the unlikely event a very temporarily
bright enough NEA came thru it would be moving fast enough to trail
and probably wouldnt get thru the pipeline.
Your idea of checking against the GCS seems best for transient images
as a whole.
