Re: GSC 748-1618

Folks,

While the interesting aspects of this star's lightcurve may
yet be revealed to be "instrumental" in origin, I would like to
point out a possible analogue for it which appears in
the MACHO LMC data: 2.5148.126.

Some lightcurves and additional info may be found at:
        http://dogwood.physics.mcmaster.ca/TASS/
The similarity in periods is suggestive. However, this is
a one-of-a-kind star in the LMC database - no other regularly
pulsating star (of similar period) in our data shows the long
modulation and large amplitude of 2.5148.126. To have a galactic
counterpart that is 6 magnitudes brighter would be useful in
trying to figure out what is happening!

Another one-of-a-kind star which has similar behavior is
HR 7308 a.k.a. V473 Lyr. This star has a significantly
longer period of 1.49 days.

Cheers,
Doug
