If you are on a private network, then you don't need to use ssh and will
get better performance from X. On the remote machine simply use:

$> export DISPLAY=localmachine:0

and on the local machine

$> xhost +remotemachine

VNC is a very useful tool. Once I used x2vnc on a linux box and with VNC
on a couple of windows boxes was able to use all three screens as if one
machine. The linux boxes keyboard and mouse were passed on to the windows
boxes when the mouse went off the edge of the linux boxes screen.

Also, VNC Viewers are available for several PDA's.
