RE: cdrecord problem

Rob,

Tom says he can write even faster than 12X using the
same computer and drives if he uses "xcdroast". He
said 24X worked for him. It's only the "mkisofs |
cdrecord" (with a pipe) that sometimes fails. So it
got me thinking "How is a pipe different than
xcdroast? Xcdroast keep a large buffer in RAM
(different from the buffer inside the CD drive)

I'm guessing but I think he's already ruled out a
media problem by doing 24x writes that work using same
media.

I've got one of the new "burn proof" writers from Sony
and even on my old 200Mhz system I could write at full
speed. I don't think they "stop". I think they
adjust the write speed based on how full the buffer
is. But it is hard to really know.
