Re: [AAVSO-DIS] Re: Nature magazine
Michael,
Congratulations on getting your picture in Nature. (13 Nov 2003 p 116-117
for those that have not heard.) Also congratulations on the hard work that
got you there. Many professional academics spend their entire career
without getting a whiff of Nature. I see you also got a family member
their 15 minutes of fame with the photo credit. C. Koppleman.
I have a small disagreement with the author. I consider the tass software
effort nearly complete and a success. Thank you Michael Richmond. It
nicely keeps up with all that data I am taking. (It does require 6
contemporary PC's to do it.) I cannot think of anything that might improve
the result. If I could, I would be furiously writing software or trying to
get someone else to write it. There is always software needed, but at the
moment it seems to be mostly stuff to prepare plots to study the results
for a paper.
I consider the whole operation a success. I could not have written the
software, though I can write software to study the results. I have been
doing just that for the last 8 months. I cannot find any significant
difference between the tass results and the results of the ASAS survey done
by a professional at an excellent location. I am gradually coming to the
conclusion that there are things that limit the results other than those
due to location or apparatus. We shall see.
This is the winter of "the" paper.
