and type "cloud detector" into the "title words" box,
you can search many journals for articles describing 
these devices.  There's an article, for example, by
Dempsey, Storey and Ashley, in Mem. S. A. It. Suppl., Vol 2,
page 70 (2003), called "COBBER: a Pocket Cloud Detector
for Dome C."  It describes a device 10cm by 4cm, which
detects clouds at an Antarctic station.
