Data Sets
I am thinking about how to prepare data sets for everyone that will want them.
I just put 2ea 180 GByte hard drives on the dual processor machine that we
have revived. At the moment it is a single processor machine. I will
shortly have a second processor for it.
I plan to load all the TOM2 data on this machine. I would then (with some
help) be able to write out CD/DVDs with selected data sets.
Would one of you like to help me plan this and help with scripts. This can be
done off line.
The main thing is to set it up the right way so that we can do the things that
we will want to do. Since I don't know what that will be some flexibility is
needed. I suppose this means a data base? Being not so sophisticated, I
would just read each .fits header and make a table of:
/location/location/FileName CRVAL1 CRVAL2
Then when I wanted something I would gawk this list to pick out an area and
the use the resulting list to copy the files. I assume there is a better
way? However if it involves a data base, then someone will have to hold my
hand to set it up.
