tom3 died in the middle of the night last night. This has happened
several times before. Dan noticed that one of the control cables could
brush up against the motor board and short out the +5. There is always
something new to find. At the moment the mystery is why tom1 goes out of
focus. Current theory is the acme nut on the tom1 focus motor.
Possibly it is slipping??

Meanwhile, the data keeps coming. tom2 always takes the best data and
averages about a million lines a night. tom1 and tom3 are looking at
gunk when they don't have something broken and so get a few hundred
thousand measurements. Still, data keeps coming.
