Images of M31 with the Flagstaff Mark IV

Well, I'm not completely happy with the results, but I have just posted the V-band image of M31 as taken by the TASS camera at NOFS at ftp://ftp.nofs.navy.mil/pub/outgoing/aah/tass/m31v.fts This is a 1550x1450 cut out of the composite image, FITS floating-point format, so expect to transfer about 8MB if you download this image. It is from a total of 103 minutes of exposure with the 10cm aperture cameras, using a Loral thick front-illuminated CCD with 7.5arcsec pixels. There is some image rotation that has not been removed. There is a little flatfielding "glow" on the right hand edge. The stars are a little out of focus. But, overall, not a bad first effort. I'll get the I-band composite out as soon as I can, but it may have to wait until I return from Europe.

Here are some GIF pictures of the image. Each has been flipped and rotated so that North is up and East to the left. Click on each one for a larger version.
